More barefoot

Today's barefoot went a little better than yesterday. It is remarkable how a little discomfort changes my running form.

Today, I was able to focus on removing that tension and breathing more fully and deeply. That helps a lot with both the stride and the endurance (of course). » read the entire item »

Barefoot

I started running barefoot today, trying to get my feet back together in time for Special Training.

In the past, the soles of my feet were fairly tough since I typically go barefoot a lot in winter and nearly all the time in the summer. However, I didn't make last year's summer Special Training, and for some reason wore shoes more than usual last winter. So my feet, while still fine for wood floor use, are not nearly tough enough to take 4 days of "Hamburger Hill". » read the entire item »

More of Jun

I got a nice phone call today from Jun Nakamiya.

Jun started Shotokan Karate with us about 15 months ago. He trained about 3 months, then entered the Central Coast tournament in May 2008. He won the white belt division championship that day, an amazing achievement after such a short time training (read his story about it here). » read the entire item »

Mountain View Dojo Visit II

Mountain View Dojo Visit I

As Brad requested, I'll try to post the (hopefully) complete report of my dojo visit to Mountain View Shotokan Karate in Boise, Idaho (3/27/09-3/28/09). I have just come back home, and this is going to be a short one. More detailed report to follow later. » read the entire item »

Been a long time...

Sorry.

Yesterday I covered class for Hiroko, who was (still is) in Boise, Idaho as a guest instructor. It sounded like the Boise crew was going to treat her right, and she was going to reciprocate. Hopefully she'll post a complete report. » read the entire item »

The moments I can not forget
